The context that the required initiation of the practice

Areal education for the students is to make them a good citizen who lives, love and care for the environment, as it is basis for the life. Now a days, plastics have become major pollutants that affect the entire ecosystem.

In our campus, there was a large-scale littering of plastic articles in the past because of the huge student population. These include plastic bags, cups, chocolate wrappers and plastic sheets. Also, there was no proper waste management system for these kinds of bio-non-degradable material. Hence, the college took the initiative to solve this problem in a phased manner. Also, the campus will indeed look more beautiful and green if this is done.

Objectives of the Practice

  • The primary objective of the program, “Plastic–Free-Campus is to develop plastic-free-campus.
  • It will help the students to become involved citizens who can manage and protect their own environment.
  • It improves the responsibility of the students to build a safe environment.
  • It creates awareness among students about the hazards of plastics.
  • To educate the students about the good ways of managing the disposal of plastic.

The Practice

The hazards of plastic area complex one and it are one that requires cooperation from all the students and staff members of the institute. The usage of plastic articles cannot best appeal together, but there capacity is good ways minimizing their use and managing their disposal in an environment friendly manner.

To tackle this problem, the college has implemented the following practice

  • Plastic items are prohibited inside the campus
  • Large number of dustbins is provided at many locations in the campus
  • The dustbins installed are cleared regularly by the attendees.
  • The canteen staffs were instructed to use paper cups and plates instead of plastic cups and plates.

Impact of the practice

  • Plastic goods are not used by our students inside the campus.
  • Paper cups and plates are used in canteen.
  • Awareness regarding hazards f plastic has-been created among students.

Proficiency–development Crash Course

The context that that required initiation of the practice

The college provides plenty of opportunities for student teachers to understand the role of diversity and equity in teaching learning process. It also develops proficiency for working with children from diverse backgrounds by conducting campaigns for developing proficiency. The student teachers are further given special course called “proficiency – development” crash course in which they are briefed on handling of students from diverse backgrounds.

Dynamism and change in the vision and mission of the institution

With the world becoming more and more technology oriented and with the changing needs of the society the aim sand objectives of the B.Ed. and the vision and mission of the college have been modified. The intention is to produce teachers competent enough to handle technology that has seeped into this competitive world.

With the growing awareness of the environmental issues and to prepare students in the schools to save the environment, our college has chosen environment as the theme of the year since last year. All the activities are cantered on creating awareness on environmental issues leading to the development of a right attitude in the minds of the student-teachers towards saving the environment.

Portfolio Exchange Program gives an exposure to the teacher educators to be proficient in all areas. Each teacher educator gets an exposure to work in all departments. New ideas and thoughts get incorporated with the concurrence of the Principal as the portfolios change hands.

Effective feedback mechanisms designed

Several feedback from shave been designed for collecting feedback from student-teachers and teacher-educators regarding their performance and performance appraisal. The information obtained from these feedback mechanisms have been effectively used for improving the practices of the organization.

Techno-Savvy approach

The classrooms have been equipped with LCD’s which enables the teachereducatorsandtheteachertraineestouseinalltheirpresentations.

The institution has provided each teacher educator with a laptop there bringing in the culture of technology in all programs.

Training programs are conducted by the computer section on the usage of the different programs. Student teachers are also given hand son training on how to use computers.

Developing Proficiency on Teaching Through Internship Objectives

Internship is the first experience of teaching to a student teachers

Internship provides an excellent opportunity to the student teachers to be taught

  • Develop mentorship,
  • To create a professional network,
  • To have a whole range of confidence-building attributes to apply to their future employment

The Context

The Student teachers are trained under the guidance of highly experienced teacher educators which includes Practice of skills, writing of Demonstration report, writing of observation report, lesson plan and Classroom management.

Description of the Practice

In the Internship period , Student teachers perform the following activities

  • Attend the 16 week Internship at any one of the High Schools and Higher Secondary schools in the Perambalur District allotted by the CEO, Perambalur.
  • The Student teacher should undergo the Observation of teaching and plan , prepare and initiate the teaching of 2 school subjects during the internship with 30 lesson plans in the company of respective instructional teaching aids.
  • The Student teacher are trained to do evaluation through 2 Units tests in the respective Schools.
  • The student teacher merge with the school community .
  • The student teacher gain knowledge of the school related activities.
  • The student teacher acquire professional skills, attitudes, interests necessary to become a teacher from the Guide teacher.

The Context

Community Service is an essential way for students to explore their interests. By engaging in volunteer work , so the students can have an opportunity to learn experimentally.
